How To Make Products More Suitable For Rotational Molding Process

1. If the pressure resistance of the product wall is high, whether the product should be designed with reinforcing ribs or a "kiss-type" structure.

2. In the direction in which the product comes out, does the design include a deep side depression? If so, they must be designed on the outside or as movable inserts, so the mold cost will increase. Because of the shrinkage of plastic, some small dents can be ignored. But it is important to know how deep the depression is without the need for additional moulds.

3. How many mold blocks are there? Under standard circumstances, there are two molds, but if the design of the product is more complex, multiple molds may be required. This will affect the cost of the mold, the maintenance of the mold and the unit cost of the plastic product.

4. Pay attention when designing the size of the rotational mold. Generally speaking, the shrinkage of rotational molding products is about 3%. If the rotational molding products require high dimensional accuracy, the raw material parameters, internal structure of the product, shrinkage of the mold material, etc. must also be considered. Do analysis and adjustments.

5. What kind of surface treatment is required for the product? Should it be cast on the surface of the mold or machined on the cast mold? The different degrees of surface treatment not only have a great impact on mold costs, but sometimes specific surface treatments can affect product demoulding.

6. Whether the rounded corners in the design are large enough to allow the resin to flow freely to every part of the mold. What is a sufficient corner radius?

7. Is there an area on the product where the resin flow is not good between the two walls? How long is the distance in this area. If the distance is longer, the surface treatment of the mold here will be difficult and expensive. If it is narrow, it will be difficult or even impossible for resin to flow into the cavity.

8. Whether inserts are used to attach other parts to plastic products. How the inserts are positioned and whether they will hold their shape during the molding operation.

9. Where is the parting surface of the mold? Sometimes there are differences in the parting surface between the aesthetic needs of the product and the actual requirements for mold making.

10. The corners of rotational molded products should be designed as rounded corners, not sharp corners or right angles. The rounded corners help the raw material flow and forming. The larger the rounded corner angle, the better the uniformity of the wall thickness of the corners and the better the molding.
