Rotational molding process

Rotational molding process is a thermoplastic hollow rotary molding method, its basic steps include:
01 Preparation of raw materials
Prepare plastic raw materials (which can be powder or liquid polymer). These raw materials have usually undergone a series of treatment and mixing to ensure the stability of their quality and performance.
02 Mold preparation
select a suitable mold and apply release agent on the mold so as to take out the product from the mold and avoid damage caused by excessive adhesion between the product and the mold.
03 Filling raw materials
Add the prepared plastic raw materials into the mold.
04 Heating and rotating
The mould rotates and heats continuously along the two vertical axes. Under the action of gravity and heat energy, the plastic raw materials in the mould are gradually evenly coated and fused and adhered to the whole surface of the mould cavity to form the desired shape.
05 Cooling setting:
After the resin is completely melted and evenly adhered to the inner wall of the mold cavity, stop heating and transfer to the cooling process, and cool the product through forced ventilation or water spraying to cool and consolidate the product.
06 Demoulding and post-treatment
when the product is cooled down, the mold is opened and the finished parts are taken away. Post-processing, such as cleaning and polishing, may be required as required.

Rotational Molding Vs.Injection Molding and Blow Molding: Differences And Advantages

Advantages: Ability to manufacture complex geometric shapes and large hollow products, low mold cost, suitable for small batch or customized production.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding are difficult to achieve complex designs, and the mold cost is high.
Advantages: The material is evenly distributed through rotation to ensure consistent wall thickness and improve product strength and durability.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding are prone to uneven wall thickness in complex shapes.
Advantages: No pressure during production, reducing internal stress and reducing the risk of product deformation or cracking.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding are prone to internal stress due to high pressure, which affects product performance.
Advantages: No waste is generated, high material utilization, suitable for expensive or special materials.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding will produce gates and flash, and there will be more material waste.
Advantages: The mold is simple and low cost, suitable for small batch or customized production.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding molds are complex and expensive, suitable for mass production.
Advantage: Can produce large hollow products, such as fuel tanks, audio equipment, amusement equipment, etc.
Difference: Injection molding has high investment costs for large products and is not suitable for large products
Advantage: The product surface is smooth, reducing the need for post-processing.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding may require more post-processing.
Advantage: No harmful gas emissions, recyclable materials, in line with environmental protection requirements.
Difference: Injection molding and blow molding may produce harmful gases and waste.
Advantage: The overall product is molded in one time, and the tank body has better airtightness and is not easy to leak
Difference: Injection molding may require multiple parts to be assembled, and there will be leakage problems when storing liquids.
