The Difference Between Forged Aluminum Molds And Cast Aluminum Molds In Rotational Molding Molds

There are significant differences between forged aluminum molds and cast aluminum molds in rotational molding molds in many aspects. The following is a detailed analysis of the differences between the two:

1. Materials and performance

Forged aluminum mold: Made of forged aluminum alloy, which has higher mechanical strength and hardness after being processed by the forging process. The forged aluminum alloy has fine grain size and high density, and can withstand higher pressure and stronger impact force. Therefore, the forged aluminum mold shows higher durability and longer service life during use.

Cast aluminum mold: Mainly made of cast aluminum alloy as raw material. Although it also has certain corrosion resistance, its mechanical strength and hardness are relatively low. The grain size of cast aluminum alloy is rough and the metal density is low, which may cause the cast aluminum mold to be easily deformed or damaged when subjected to large pressure or impact force, thus affecting its service life.

2. Production process

Forged aluminum mold: Made by forging process, the raw materials are processed and forged to achieve higher mechanical properties. The forging process can improve the structure and performance of the material, and improve the overall quality and durability of the mold.

Cast aluminum mold: usually made by injection molding, die-casting and other methods. These methods are relatively simple and low-cost, but may have certain limitations in terms of mold accuracy, surface quality, and performance.

3. Cost and applicability

Cost: Since the material and manufacturing process requirements of forged aluminum molds are higher, their costs will be higher than those of cast aluminum molds. However, considering the longer service life and more stable performance of forged aluminum molds, its overall cost may be more advantageous in the long run.

Applicability: Due to its excellent mechanical properties and durability, forged aluminum molds are more suitable for producing products that require higher mold requirements, such as large, complex or high-precision plastic products. Cast aluminum molds are more suitable for products that do not have particularly high mold requirements, or are used in some cost-sensitive applications.

4. Maintenance and maintenance

Whether it is a forged aluminum mold or a cast aluminum mold, proper maintenance and upkeep is required during use to extend its service life and maintain stable performance. However, due to the superior material and performance of forged aluminum molds, their maintenance and upkeep cycles may be relatively long and maintenance costs may be low.

To sum up, there are obvious differences between the forged aluminum mold and the cast aluminum mold in rotational molding in terms of material, performance, manufacturing process, cost and applicability. Which mold to choose depends on the specific application scenario and needs. In cases where there are higher requirements for mold performance, forged aluminum molds may be a better choice; in cases where cost is sensitive or mold requirements are not particularly high, cast aluminum molds may be more suitable.
