There are many factors that affect the quality of plastic fuel tanks, among which the more important ones are the shape of the mold, the rotation speed of the mold, the heating temperature and time of the mold, the physical properties of the plastic powder, etc.
The mold used for rotational molding is a single-wall closed mold, which gives the outline of the product, but the internal outline of the product cannot be refined to the details. Generally, ordinary carbon steel plates are used as the molding material of the rolling mold for welding. This welding mold has low cost and is especially suitable for large rotational molding products.
The plastic fuel tank process has the following basic requirements for its mold:
1. The mold is not easy to deform and bend during repeated heating and cooling.
2. The mold should be equipped with an easy-to-loose clamping mechanism so that the mold can be tightly closed during heating and cooling, and can be easily opened when the product needs to be loaded and unloaded.
3. The design and installation of the mold should be conducive to the relative movement of the airflow around the mold surface, so that the mold can be evenly heated and cooled.
4. The mold should be equipped with a ventilation pipe to prevent the gas in the mold from expanding due to heat during heating and squeezing out the molten plastic along the mold seam, and to prevent the negative pressure in the mold from causing the mold and the product to deform during cooling.
5. When designing the local structure of the mold, try to avoid deep cavities, deep holes, reinforcing ribs, solid protrusions and other structures, because it is difficult for powdered materials to cover the surface of the above structures.
6. Rotational speed of plastic fuel tank mold Usually, the rotational molding machine uses two adjustable speed motors to power the rotation and swinging motion of the mold around the main axis and the secondary axis, so that the rotation speed and swinging motion of the mold around the main axis and the secondary axis can be adjusted. By adjusting the speed of the two adjustable speed motors, the operator can obtain a relatively uniform product wall thickness under any product shape. The basic function of mold rotation and swinging is to make the powdered material evenly mixed and spread over the mold surface.
7. The particle size of polyethylene powder of plastic fuel tank material has an important influence on its melting process. The smaller the particle, the greater the ratio of its surface area to volume, and the faster the melting speed. The particle size of roto-molding powder is generally not less than 30 mesh, but the particle size of the powder cannot be too small, because too fine powder is easy to absorb moisture and agglomerate, and it is difficult to dry, which increases the difficulty in the process. Too fine powder materials will clump when rolling in the mold, resulting in uneven heating of the powder, uneven wall thickness of the product or insufficient molten plastic in the product.
